My (short) Story:
A longtime writer with a background in music and theater, I started my own blog, Rock+Paper+Music, back in 2010, the (g)olden days of early blogdom, and in 2011 was invited to write for what was then The Huffington Post (now diminutized to HuffPost), and a variety of other media.
Never willing to leave music/performing too far behind, I continued with songwriting and studio sessions, and in various bands and theatrical productions, most currently my own band, Sixth & Third. Spotify has a “Lorraine Devon Wilke Radio” playlist where a slate of my recordings are featured along with an astonishing array of top female artists. Which made my day.
I survived the pandemic by writing two new novels. My three previous have been awarded by various literary organizations; the third, The Alchemy Of Noise, about a mixed-race couple’s challenges with family and law enforcement, garnered an invitation to NPR’s 1A show to discuss “literature + culture” related to the American Dirt debate, and won the California Regional Award for Adult Fiction in the 2023 Indie Author Project.
My fourth novel, Chick Singer, pubbed April 2025 through Sibylline Press. My fifth, The Weight of Fables, is scheduled for a Spring 2027 release, and The Mother of My Reinvention: essays, stories & lyrical assemblages, was released in early 2026. And finally, my photography is posted at my Fine Art America site.
To wrap with a spot of the personal: I’m long-and-happily-married with delightful grown children and a beloved brother nearby, great friends, and a cat who takes daily umbrage, as you can see, with the time I spend writing. Life is good.
Why I’m Here:
I’m a loudmouth (hence, title), and when I organize my thoughts in a cogent manner and stop self-censoring (“haven’t 400 other people already said that?” or “Is there any reason for me, specifically, to add to this topic?”), I’ve decided to post interesting, hopefully insightful, always opinionated, content that will ideally entertain, engage, maybe even inform readers and subscribers enough to keep them visiting. Conversely, I’m interested in finding smart commentators, writers of every medium, artists of all kinds, and other loudmouths who contribute intelligent, inspiring perspective to the conversations we’re all having these (crazy) days.
